I'm nervous to get my photos taken...

This is something I hear quite often. And I don't blame you. I'm even nervous to get photos taken! But getting in front of the camera really shows a side of you that you may not know you had. Whenever I look back at photos professionally taken of myself I think, "wow I look good!" and I want you to feel that way too!

When you book a wedding photography package with me, a complimentary engagement session is included. I've had clients ask, "can we skip the engagement photos? I just want you to show up to my wedding and take pictures because that's the day that I actually want remembered." And while, yes, you can skip your engagement session, you're missing out on the benefits of having one done!

Here are some reasons why having an engagement session is so important:

  • You get comfortable in front of the camera.

This is your opportunity to feel what it's like to be in front of the camera if you never have before! And it's my job to make you feel like the camera isn't even there! Spending time with each other, in an atmosphere that's most comfortable between you and your partner will help to get rid of the anxiety you may feel heading into your wedding day. Then, you can be full present at your wedding and not have to worry about your photography!

  • Being engaged is a milestone to celebrate on its own!

Being engaged is special too! It's a period in your life before you embark on the next step of your life together. And in my opinion, I think it's something to be celebrated. Make a day out of your engagement photos. Have a spa day and take your time getting ready and have a date day. This could be booking a reservation to your favourite restaurant, going to see movie or even just going for a walk at your favourite park.

  • Incorporate parts of your relationship into your engagement session

This is some of the best advice I can give. If you're nervous about having "stiff" looking engagement photos, I can guarantee that incorporating something that you and your partner love to do will take that all away! This could be cooking a meal together, taking your dog for a walk at your favourite park, grabbing a beer at your favourite local pub, or even just hanging out on the couch with a cup of coffee and a good book. This will allow you to relax more in an environment that feels best for you!

Still not convinced? Talk to your photographer! Having open communication with your photographer will ease a lot of stress! It's our job to be there for you! I hope this was helpful.
